On Reading Books

I’ve met many people who have resolved to read at least one book a week and thought to myself: I wish I had the same luxury of time to be able to do that.

Then I realized I’m actually reading the average of 4 (nonfiction) books a week! Most of them are about programming and development techniques, but nonfiction nonetheless.

The last time I was asked what were the 3 nonfiction books you’ve read in the past month, I wasn’t able to answer off the top of my head. Now I understand; “nonfiction” to me sounded like the boring stuff like history of wars or a diary of an unsung hero. I have fun reading books that teach me how to become better at doing what I love, so in my mind it was never “nonfiction.”

The upside(downside?) to being a software developer is that you never stop learning.
